Katakeera a well-established and productive farming property in the tightly held Humula district within the City of Wagga Wagga local government area will be auctioned by Ruralco Property at the Mantra Pavilion Hotel in Wagga Wagga on Friday 18 November at 11 am.
Katakeera comprises a freehold area of 541 hectares (or 1,339 acres) at 301 Shokeroo Road which is currently run as a sheep and cattle operation although a successful cropping program of triticale has been conducted previously.
The auction sale is part of a planned retirement.
The vendors bought the property, after long previous family ownership and moved onto the holding about fourteen years ago.
They relocated from Sydney with a plan to farm for fifteen years and then move on to a new life stage.
Vendor Steve Mead has also worked recently on a five day a week basis in Canberra which is about two and a quarter hours distant.
“We have attended to all the farming basics and with my outside work commitment we set the property up, as far as possible, to pretty much run itself.
“There are excellent water resources with about fifteen on-farm dams of scale, two reliable running creek frontages, the Shockeroo and Campbell Creeks.

He says the farming infrastructure includes a modern three stand raised board shearing shed, multiple grain or feed silos, machinery sheds cattle yards with vet crush and Prattley sheep yards.

At the moment the property is running 600 Merino ewes and their first cross lambs, plus about 150 head of Angus breeding cows and their calves so it’s the sort of holding that is capable of yielding a good living.
